The Quality of Mercy
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This assignment was part of the Directing Classical Drama course, in conjunction with a Seminar in Classical Drama. Students were instructed create a new narrative by combining two scenes from two contrasting plays by Shakespeare as part of the university’s Workshop Series.
The scene was performed in a modified thrust space and featured stylistically appropriate direction, design, costumes, lighting, and properties without a budget. This project combined King Lear and The Merchant of Venice with both graduate and undergraduate performers. Each director was allotted 18 rehearsals that could not exceed two hours over a span of three weeks.
